Comparative Study on Effect of Type of Flame Arrester on Explosion-Proof Diesel Engine Performance
Comparative CFD-Fluent fluid simulation was performed of the inside flow and pressure fields of two types of flame arrester: the flat and corrugated. The results show that the corrugated flame arrester performs better in reducing exhaust backpressure than the flat one and it ensures explosion proof effectiveness. The bench testing of TY4100QFB diesel engine equipped with flat or corrugated flame arresters of equivalent flow area was conducted to analyze the effect of exhaust backpressure on the power
economy and emissions of the engine at full speed and full load. The test results show
on account of large porosity ratio
the corrugated flame arrester has a significant effect on reducing exhaust backpressure
optimizing combustion and reducing NOx
CO and PM
with the average reductions of CO
NOx
PM emissions being 8.5%
4.6% and 11.45% respectively
but output power and fuel consumption have no obvious change. Moreover
the corrugated flame arrester is smaller and lighter.
