Rock-Socketed piles have become the most typical foundations in rock mass with soil cover layer for overhead transmission lines in mountain areas in China. In this study
the design optimizations of vertical compression and uplift resistances as well as the lateral load baring performance of rock-socketed piles were investigated by using the methods of theoretical analysis
case study
and finite element numerical simulation. The results indicated that the design of vertical compression and uplift bearing capacities of rock-rocketed piles were relatively easy to be satisfied
and its optimization design mainly involved a reasonable determination of rock socketed depth for piles. When the soil cover layer was shallow
the designed lateral load bearing capacity of rock-socketed piles in rock masses were safe and reliable according to the current code of DL/T 5845—2021 in electric power industry. Consequently
the pile diameter design should be optimized according to the load and the thickness of the soil cover layer
striving to achieve the best match between the load
the thickness of the soil cover layer
and the pile diameter. However
when the thickness of the overlying soil layer was larger
it was necessary to investigate the current design calculation model in DL/T 5845—2021 for rock socketed piles
and the m method can be used to design the lateral load bearing performance of the rocksocketed piles. Therefore
the design results obtained by the two methods should be compared.
