Dynamitron-type MV-class high-voltage DC power supplies are widely used in many fields such as accelerator mass spectrometry. Conventional methods struggle to achieve rapid and accurate solving of the potential distribution of complex capacitor networks with nonlinear elements in Dynamitron-type systems. Addressing these issues
this study achieves distributed capacitance network extraction with finite element simulation
and obtains the nonlinear voltage-dependent characteristic of high-voltage high-frequency rectifier junction capacitances through resonance equivalent method. Based on results of capacitance network extraction
through piecewise circuit analysis on the multiplier network
analytical equations of the potential distribution were formulated with the circuit cycle-averaging method. The fast solving of the potential distribution of multiplier network of the Dynamitron-type MV-level high-voltage DC power supply is realized after taking into account the voltage-dependent characteristics of the silicon stack junction capacitance. A 2 MV-output HV DC power supply prototype was developed
and potential distribution of multiplier network within the prototype were measured experimentally. The results demonstrate that the solving results based on proposed method and experimental results are highly consistent. With consideration of assembly error
the error can be reduced to lower than 10%. The results indicate that the accuracy is significantly higher than that of conventional approaches. This study provides a basis for the optimization of voltage multiplication efficiency and compactness of Dynamitron-type MV-class high voltage DC power supplies.
