Configuring an appropriate proportion of grid-forming (GFM) converters in the renewable generation base can effectively enhance the small signal stability (SSS) and transfer capacity (TC) of the renewable generation base which is transmitted by VSC-HVDC system (RGBTVS) system. In this paper
an optimal configuration model for GFM converters in RGBTVS is established
and the objective is minimizing the configuration costs while satisfying the constraints of required SSS and TC. To avoid full state-space SSS equation calculations for the entire system
the model employs a generalized operational short-circuit ratio (gOSCR) constraint instead of the SSS constraint. Addressing the challenge of eigenvalue calculation in the gOSCR constraints
an estimation method for the boundary values of Perron root of non-negative matrices is introduced to transform the matrix eigenvalue constraint into algebraic inequalities
resulting in a tractable mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) model. Finally
case study on a practical RGBTVS in Southwest China validates the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed method.
