The very-fast-transient overvoltage (VFTO) is characterized by short wave front time
high amplitude and wide frequency
which poses a threat to the safe operation of power equipment. In order to suppress the propagation of VFTO
an “inductor + resistor” structure of damped busbar is designed
and a wide frequency transient circuit model of damped busbar considering spurious parameters is established. The Maxwell capacitance matrix is utilized to complete the calculation of the spurious parameters and to realize the construction of the damped bus simulation model. Through simulation analysis
it is found that the VFTO value by using the damped busbar wide frequency transient model is not superior to that modeled with the centralized parameter. This shows that the spurious parameters affect the damping busbar’s suppression effect on VFTO. Therefore
the size of the spurious parameter should be minimized when the damping bus is designed. Comparison of waveforms before and after the addition of damping busbar is made on a 550 kV test platform. The test results show that the average amplitude of VFTO decreases by 20.36% and the number of breakdowns decreases by about 66.7% after the installation of damping busbar
and there is no obvious high-frequency frequency after the installation of damping busbar. This shows that the damping bus has a good suppression effect on the amplitude
number of breakdowns and frequency of the VFTO. This technique provides a new way for VFTO suppression and provides technical supports for the safe operation of power systems.
