as one of the key technologies for microgrid converters in terms of stability and energy management
plays a significant role in enhancing system damping and inertia. Compared to traditional grid-forming energy storage technologies
it is more adaptable to the development of the power grid and can address the stability issues of electric energy quality such as grid voltage and frequency in new-type power systems characterized by "high penetration" and "high voltage". We review existing engineering examples of grid-forming energy storage and their grid connection characteristic detection technologies. By elucidating the differences between grid-forming energy storage and traditional grid-following energy storage
we discuss common control strategies for grid-forming energy storage. Then
we list new national standards and policies regarding grid-forming energy storage from the past two years
exploring the national support and technical feasibility. Subsequently
we present recent engineering examples of grid-forming energy storage
further exploring the unique power supply characteristics of specific projects such as the Aksu and Sichuan-Tibet high-altitude gigawatt string grid-forming energy storage projects
from which reference-worthy grid connection characteristic detection technologies are derived. Finally
we put forward the prospects in the future applications of grid-forming energy storage
providing a reference for its further development.
