Grid-following inverters are prone to transient overvoltage at the point of common coupling during low voltage fault recovery. This paper first analyzes the mechanism of overvoltage at the point of common coupling based on the dynamic processes of various control loops and grid-tied lines in the photovoltaic system during fault recovery. It is believed that improper response of reactive and active currents is the main factor causing transient overvoltage. Therefore
the reactive and active current reference recovery characteristics
as well as the current control characteristics
jointly affect the magnitude of transient overvoltage. Based on these transient characteristics
this paper proposes an overvoltage suppression strategy for optimizing the characteristics of current recovery. This control strategy has better overvoltage suppression capability than the traditional current reference direct switching method. Finally
the correctness of the theoretical analysis and the effectiveness of the proposed overvoltage suppression strategy were verified through simulation and experiments.
