Research on the Methodological System and Technology of Product Carbon Footprint Accounting
Integrating the development of a localized carbon footprint of products (CFP) accounting system with China’s "Dual Carbon" strategy is crucial for achieving industrial addressing global climate change and green development. This paper reviews the development of the global CFP accounting system
and elaborates on the theoretical and practical innovation issues of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method in China. To address these issues
this paper proposes an innovative "Four-in-One" methodological framework for CFP accounting with Chinese characteristics. The framework encompasses four core elements: modeling methods
data systems
standard specifications
and accounting certification. 1) Modeling Methods: this study develops a hierarchical carbon footprint modeling approach
introduces spatiotemporal dynamic accounting for indirect carbon emissions from electricity use
and employs energy carbon load allocation techniques to enhance accuracy and applicability. 2) Data Systems: Innovative data grading and traceability technologies
along with real-scenario background data conversion methods
are proposed to support the construction of localized background databases. 3) Standard Specifications: the study clarifies pathways for developing industry-specific Product Category Rules (PCR) and strengthens the synergy between policies and standards to ensure systematic implementation. 4) Accounting and Certification: the linkage between carbon footprint labeling
certification and verification is elucidated
while pathways for international mutual recognition are explored to ensure alignment with global standards. Finally
with the goal of the full implementation of the "Four-in-One" system
core measures for strengthening the product carbon footprint management system are put forward.
