Transient Power Angle Trajectories and Stabilizing Boundary Calculations for Shipboard Nonlinear Time-periodic System With Pulsed Power Load
Abstract
Pulsed power load (PPL)
such as radar
connected to the shipboard integrated power system (SIPS)
induce periodic shock oscillations due to the system’s low inertia. Their nonlinear time-periodic (NLTP) characteristics aggravate system response uncertainty
potentially causing transient instability and over-limit operation of power equipment. To analyze the NLTP behavior and clarify the transient stabilization mechanism under periodic disturbances
a method for transient power-angle trajectory and stability boundary calculation is proposed. This method constructs a Dormand-Prince analytical model with variable step size and order to resolve the modeling of time-periodic state variables and map the corresponding phase-space trajectories. This paper also introduces a Lyapunov periodic exponent as a convergence criterion to identify convergence stable
sub-stable
and divergence unstable regions in the parameter space. Based on this
this paper also develops a parameter sensitivity analysis method to quantify multi-timescale characteristics of transient dynamics. A typical SIPS with PPL is modeled on the RT-LAB platform. Simulation results verify that the proposed method accurately identifies system stability
with a transient stability boundary error of about 4%.
