Damping Method and Characteristic Analysis of Plate Type Permanent Magnet EDS System
The permanent magnet electrodynamic suspension (PMEDS) system has advantages such as simplicity
reliability
and the ability to self-regulate the levitation gap. However
its weak damping characteristics and poor resistance to external disturbances limit its large-scale application. This paper proposes a damping method for plate type PMEDS systems by attaching a non-magnetic metal damping plate on the side of the permanent magnets facing the reaction plate. When there is relative vertical motion between the damping plate and the reaction plate
eddy currents generated in the damping plate interact with the magnetic field of the eddy currents in the reaction plate
producing damping effect. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through FEM and experiments. Additionally
a polynomial fitting method (PFM) is introduced
which can quickly and easily obtain and evaluate the damping characteristics. The movement characteristics of the system calculated based on PFM are consistent with the results obtained from finite element numerical simulations. Computational analysis of vibration suppression effects for different damping plate thicknesses and electrical conductivities can effectively enhance the performance of PMEDS system.
