Based on the traditional cement-treatment and lime-treatment methods
the stabilizers by using high volume low-calcium fly ash
lime and cement are proposed
in order to improve the strength and durability of marine sediments and to achieve the resource utilization of marine sediment and low-calcium fly ash. A series of laboratory tests were performed to investigate the variation of compaction characteristic
strength property
water stability and durability of solidified marine sediments. The experimental results show that the addition of designed stabilizers causes a decrease in optimum water content and a very slight increase in maximum dry density compared to untreated sediments. The elastic modulus
unconfined compressive strength and tensile strength increase to different levels
while the strength and elastic modulus increases more significantly with higher cement content and longer curing time. The water stability can be greatly ameliorated after solidification treatment compared to untreated sediments. Finally
the strength performance of solidified sediments could be significantly decreased by water immersion damage and thawing-freezing cycles
and the unconfined compressive strengths of designed materials are decreased by about 22% due to the thawing-freezing cycles.
