Based on rebound-recompression test of different soils and model test
the concept of reloading ratio and recompression proportion are proposed; and then
the basic law of recompression deformation is drawn as follows. As the reloading is 20% of unloading capacity
the recompression deformation is about 40%-50% of rebound ones; as the reloading capacity reached 80% of unloading capacity
the recompression deformation is roughly equal to the rebound deformation; as the reloading capacity is equal to the unloading capacity
the recompression deformation is more than the rebound deformation; and the magnitude of its increase is related to the charater of soil. When reompressed
the recompresson deformation of soil increases faster in the beginning of reloading and becomes slow with the increasing of load. So the law of recompression defomation can be divided into two phases
in which the relation between reloading ratio and recompression proportion is linear. The law of recompression deformation has practical engineering significance: (1) the rebound-reconpression deformation has advantages to decrease differential settlement between main and podium buildings which are built on natural ground. (2) the law support the calculation method of settlement caused by the rebound-recompression deformation of soil under foundation base.
