Study of characteristics of pore water pressure and strength of overconsolidated saturated marine clay under bidirectional cyclic loadings
Through a series of stress-controlled coupling vertical and torsional shear tests under isotropic consolidation stress conditions on the remoulded saturated marine clay in the Yangtze River estuary
the effects of the ratio of two stress components (R) and the over consolidation ratio (OCR) on the characteristics of pore water pressure and dynamic strength were examined. It is found that with a decrease in R
the amplitude of fluctuated pore water pressure decreases all along
while the residual pore water pressure decreases at first and then increases
and it reaches the lowest at R = 1. At the same cycle number
the residual pore water pressure decreases
while the amplitude of fluctuated pore water pressure increases with the increasing of OCR. At the same ratio of number of cycles (N/Nf)
the ratio of residual pore water pressure (ur / urmax) decreases with the increasing of OCR. The relationship curves of ur / urmax-N/Nf for the normally consolidated and overconsolidated saturated clays can be expressed by different expressions. The cycle number at failure increases at first and then decreases with a decrease in R; and it reaches the most at R = 1. The change of the dynamic strength decreases with an increase in OCR.
