Based on the continuity of vertical displacements and the smooth contact conditions between the transversely isotropic layered soils and the elastic rectangular plate
the analytical solution of transversely isotropic soils under the elastic rectangular plate can be obtained by using the uncoupled transfer matrix solutions for displacements and stresses of transversely isotropic layered soils. Numerical calculation and analysis are carried out by the computer program. The numerical results show that the rigidity of the elastic rectangular plate has a great influence on the vertical displacements under the rectangular plate and the normal stresses under the center of the rectangular plate
and they decrease with the growth of the rigidity of the elastic plate. It is also shown that the calculation results for the transversely isotropic layered soils are quite different from those for the homogeneously isotropic layered soils under the same load
so it is necessary to adopt the transversely isotropic foundation model which is more accord with soil’s properties in practical projects.
