A new method which can reduce the of derivation workload is developed to obtain the transfer matrix for nonaxisymmetric Biot consolidation of multilayered soils. Based on the nonaxisymmetric Biot consolidation equations in the cylindrical coordinate system
introducing intermediate variables
together with the technique of the Fourier expansions with respect to coordinate ?
and taking Laplace-Hankel transform with respect to time t and coordinates r
two sets of ordinary differential equations of 6 order and 2 order for Biot consolidation are obtained; then the transfer matrix for the nonaxisymmetric Biot consolidation of a single layer soil is acquired by taking Laplace transform and its inverse with respect to coordinates z. The solution of multilayered soils in the Laplace-Hankel transform domain is obtained by using the transfer matrix method combined with the continuity conditions of adjacent layers and boundary conditions. The solution in physical domain can be obtained by inverting the Laplace-Hankel transforms. Numerical calculations and analysis are carried out. The method has a high speed of computation and is convenient for engineering application.
