Based on the use-developed platform of the general-purpose FEM system ABAQUS
Duncan-Chang constitutive model was numerically implemented. Stress and movement analysis for an asphalt concrete core dam including the phases of filling and impounding were conducted by 2-D nonlinear FEM. The magnitudes of stresses and displacements of the dam and asphalt concrete core were obtained. All results are reasonable and capable of providing important reference to the optimization of cross-section zones and design of seepage of asphalt concrete core for the project. Moreover
by fully utilizing the nonlinear analysis capacities provided by ABAQUS
further development is a shortcut and an effective solution to accomplish stress and strain analysis for earth-rock dam.
