The effects of the stabilizing piles on the stability of a slope are simulated. The shear strength reduction method is employed in the analysis
and the zero-thickness elastoplastic interface elements are adopted to simulate the soil-pile interaction. The effects of the spacing and position of the pile on the safety factor of the slope
as well as the behaviors of the piles under these conditions
are given. The calculated results show that under the maximum safety factor
the place where the pile should be installed is associated with the depth and position of the sliding surface; and for the embankment slope
installing piles at the toe of the slope is safe. Appropriate reduction of the spacing of the piles is beneficial to the improvement of stability of the slope and the exertion of the effect of soil arching.
