According to the one-dimensional Terzaghi’s consolidation theory
the relationship between the consolidation velocity and time is deduced
which could be used to propose a new method for evaluating the analytical solution of the coefficient of consolidation. This new method avoids the disadvantages of the graphical methods
and eliminates the influences of the initial settlement and the secondary consolidation. Some statistic software can be used to deal with the original data based on the least square principle. Compared with the other traditional methods by two practical examples
the new method can determine the coefficient of consolidation in practice
with good accuracy
reliability and convenience. Especially
it does not need the test data from the initial and the secondary consolidation; so it can accelerate the course of the consolidation test.
