The Nakai's sub-loading constitutive model are used to investigate shear band localization in plane strain model tests. Boundary condition and loading speed effects on the overconsolidated Fujinomori clay are investigated using the finite deformation theory for shear band localization. Two obvious shear band patterns are obtained. It is indicated that the dilatancy of the overconsolidated clay
migration of the pore water and boundary constraint control the initiation and propagation of the shear bands.
