A nonlinear viscoelastic constitutive model is adopted to describe the creep properties of soft soil. Finite element model is established to simulate a project where EPS was used as substitutive material. The effect of EPS was computed. Primary consolidation
secondary consolidation and over consolidation are discussed. The causes of large settlement after construction are discussed. The long-term settlement of the project is predicted. The method and principle of designing EPS are discussed.
