By mixing the n-butanol and diesel in a certain proportion into several blend fuels
the evaporation and atomization characteristics of the fuel
such as kinematic viscosity
distillation
density
closed-cup flash point
cetane number and heating value were measured
and the atomized droplet diameter
spray penetration distance
turbulent kinetic energy and dissipation rate of the fuel jet in the engine combustion chamber were analyzed based on the experimental date and three dimensional numerical simulation. The correlation between the evaporation-atomization characteristics was also analyzed. The results show that for the distillation characteristics
the distillation of 10% shows a significant advance with the increase of blend ratio
and the distillation of 95% has little difference. The density and heating value present a linear decline trend with blend ratio
and the kinematic viscosity
closed-cup flash point and cetane number decrease significantly at low blend ratio
but with the increase of blend ratio the downward trend begin to moderate. For the atomization characteristics
the atomized droplet diameter and turbulent kinetic energy show a downward trend with the increase of blend ratio while the average dissipation rate and high-speed expansion area of the fuel jet then increase. The kinematic viscosity
density and distillation of 50% are the main parameters affecting the atomization characteristics. The atomized droplet diameter is affected greatly by the fuel characteristics while the effect of closed-cup flash point
cetane number and heating value on atomization is relatively small.
