The upstream guide wall of flood discharge gate plays the role of restricting and guiding flow
improving the inlet boundary conditions
adjusting the flow pattern
and ensuring the safe operation of hydraulic structures. This paper
taking a proposed hydropower station on Dadu river as the research object
presents the numerical simulation used to study pier head of three shapes: respectively circular
streamlined
and square. The research results show that the backwater effect of the streamlined pier head is better than that of the circular pier head and the square pier head. The length of the detour flow zone around the streamlined pier head is 33.5%smaller than the circular pier head and is 62.3% smaller than the square pier head. The root mean square of the diversion ratio of the streamlined pier head is smaller than that of the square and circular pier heads
and the discharge capacity of the gate hole is more uniform. The relevant research results can provide guide for sluice design.
