In order to thoroughly study the characteristics of lightning induced voltage on overhead lines
the lightning induced voltage on overhead single wire was calculated by numerical calculation. The lightning electromagnetic pulse(LEMP) was calculated by the finite difference time domain(FDTD) method. The coupling between the LEMP and the overhead single wire was achieved by the coupling model of Agrawal. Meanwhile
we investigated the effects of the length of line
the line height and the boundary condition on the characteristics of induced voltage waveform and the induced voltage peak distribution on line. The results show that the amplitude of induced voltage increases linearly with the erection height. The amplitude and the pulse width of induced voltage both increase nonlinearly with the increase of wire length. The induced voltage peak of the observation point nearest to the return-stroke channel is not necessarily the maximum
due to the effect of horizontal electric field. With the increase of the grounding resistance
the pulse width of the induced voltage decreases and the amplitude of "zero crossing" increases. The amplitude and waveform of induced voltage at both ends of the wire are particularly affected by the grounding resistance
while the amplitude of the voltage in the middle of the wire is not affected. The results in this paper can provide a theoretical reference for lightning induced voltage protection of overhead distribution lines.
