Calculation and Analysis of Arcing Process of Fuses Based on Semi-empirical Model
we established a semi-empirical mathematical model of arc combustion.First
we calculated the pre-arcing time of the fuse through ANSYS finite element software; analyzed and simplified the physical process of the arc combustion
and established the external circuit models for melt ablation
quartz Sand ablation
heat exchange between arc and quartz sand
and arc voltage.Secondly
the results were calculated by MATLAB
and the calculated current and voltage curves were fitted with the experimental curve. Thirdly
the arc-related physical property parameters were determined
and the curve of electrical conductivity with temperature was introduced during the arcing process. Finally
a fuse with rated 1 200 V/1 250 A was taken as the research object based on the model to analyze the influences of arc ignition process and melt structure size on the arc voltage peak value and zero crossing time. The simulation and experimental results show that
with the increase of width and pitch length
the peak value of arc pressure of melt increases and the zero crossing time decreases; when the total length of melt remains at a fixed value
the variation of fracture number and pitch length has a negligible effect on the arc characteristics. The peak arc voltage of the melt should be controlled within 3 times of the rated voltage
and the zero crossing time should be taken as the safety protection margin.
