A Model for Predicting Ice Weight on Insulators Based on Regional Segmentation Method
Insulator icing may cause icing flashover and even lead to power grid outage
and ice weight is an important parameter to characterize icing degree of insulator. Due to remarkable differences of ice weight on insulators in the environments of the windward and leeward
we proposed a method based on the Lagrange method in which the collision coefficient of water droplets is calculated in different regions. Calculating the freezing fraction in different regions of insulator
and combining with the equation of ice weight on icing cylinder
we established a prediction model of ice weight on insulator
and performed verification through the artificial icing tests. Test results indicate that there are remarkable differences in collision coefficient of water droplets in different regions of insulator. The collision coefficient of water droplets on the windward edge of shed is much smaller than that on the windward cap and shed
but it is almost 2~3 times that on the leeward. Within 0~60 minutes
the relative error between ice weight calculated in the prediction model and experimental ice weight is less than 20%.
