Simulation of Bioelectric Effects of Dispersive Electroporated Spherical Cell with Nanosecond Pulsed Electric Field
In order to accurately study the distribution of cell transmembrane potential under nanosecond pulses electric field(nsPEF)
we developed a five-layer dielectric model of spherical cell with multi-physics simulation software of COMSOL Multiphysics
and studied the bioelectric effects of dispersion(DP) and electroporation(EP) on a cell with ns PEF. Compared with the results obtained by only taking into account EP
the speed at which the trans-membrane potential(TMP) of point A1 reaches its peak is obviously accelerated; and significant increase in the TMP of B1 during the period from 0 to 100 ns is observed when both DP and EP are introduced; the pore density and TMPs of points A1—A7 with time and along the arc length show that A1—A5 are electroporated successively with A1 at 2 ns
demonstrating that at least 2/3 of the plasma membrane is electroporated. The simulation results demonstrate that accurate prediction of bioelectric effects of nsPEF can be obtained only introducing both DP and EP.
