Development and Experimental Study of Cable Joint Pressure Connecting Device Based on the Electromagnetic Pulse Forming Technology
The connection quality of cable joints directly determines the safe operation of cable lines. However
the existing hydraulic methods are limited by manual construction quality
mechanical technology and other factors. It is difficult to ensure the reliable connection of cable joints. Therefore
by introducing electromagnetic pulse forming technology into connection of cable joints
we designed and developed a new compression device for cable joints with the maximum discharge energy of 28 kJ and the maximum working voltage of 20 kV. On this basis
the compression experiments of 70 mm
2
cables and joints were carried out. The electromagnetic pulse forming technology and the existing hydraul
ic technology were compared and analyzed from the mechanical and electrical properties of the compressed joints. The influential law of charging voltage on the performance of the compressed cable joints was also discussed. The results show that electromagnetic pulse forming technology can be adopted to effectively connect the cables with the joints. Under a certain charging voltage(12 kV)
compared with that by the hydraulic technology
the tensile strength of cable joints compressed by electromagnetic pulse forming technology increases by at least 35%
while the connection resistance of the compressed joints decreases by 36.15%. It is also found that
with the increase of charging voltage
the tensile strength of the compression joint will increase while the connection resistance will decrease. The simulation also verifies the experimental results.
