To make up for the limitation of current of MMC de-icing device and the harmonic and reactive power loss brought by thyristor Gratz de-icing device to AC system
a hybrid de-icing technology is proposed in this paper. It consists of a full-bridge MMC de-icing device and a thyristor Gratz de-icing device. The two devices together provide the line ice-melting current. The full-bridge MMC acts as an active filter to filter and compensate the harmonic and reactive power generated by the thyristor Gratz de-icing device. At the same time
it can perform zero-power rated current tests. In this paper
the operating principle of the hybrid de-icing technology is described in detail
its control strategy is developed
and the PSCAD simulation model of the technology is built for the whole system simulation study
which verifies the feasibility and technical superiority of the hybrid de-icing technology.
