10 kV/10 kA Superconducting Current-limiting Type Vacuum DC Interrupting Technology and Its Experimental Research
A resistive type superconducting current limiter can automatically and quickly limit the short-circuit current. An artificial zero-crossing type vacuum DC circuit breaker has the advantages of low equipment cost and fast action speed. Therefore
a combination of the two technologies may perfectly meet the requirements of flexible direct current transmission. The objective of this paper is to propose a superconducting current-limiting type vacuum DC interrupting technology
and to verify its feasibility. Firstly
the principle of the proposed DC interrupting is analyzed. Then
a 10 kV/10 kA prototype is designed. Finally
DC current breaking tests are carried out with a 10 kV LC current source. The prospective current peak is 10 kA. The experimental results show that the superconducting current-limiting module can limit the short-circuit current from 10 kA to 1.4 kA
then the series connected artificial zero-crossing type DC breaking module interrupts the limited current within 12 ms. The superconducting current-limiting module has the following merits: effectively limiting the short-circuit current
absorbing the energy stored in the inductance of the system
suppressing the switching overvoltage
and effectively clearing DC short circuit faults with improving the breaking reliability. Moreover
the amplitude of the short-circuit current after current limiting is low
and the value of the required interrupting current is also small
which is beneficial to reducing the parameters and size of the DC breaking module and making the device structure more compact.
