Surface Modification Characteristics for Morphology and Wetting of White Pine Wood by Using Positive and Negative Corona Discharge
In order to explore the mechanism of both the surface morphology and wetting characteristics of wood that was modified by electric discharge active particles
a discharge plasma system with needle-plate electrode structure was used to modify the surface of white pine
which could be generated the positive and negative DC corona discharge. Then
parameters were examined by a scanning electron microscope(SEM)
contact angle measuring instrument
Raman spectrometer
and infrared spectrometer
respectively. Furthermore
the surface modification characteristics of the white pine wood including the surface morphology
wetting characteristics
and chemical groups were analyzed. Results show that
as both discharge voltage and treatment time for processing the white pine wood surface increase
the roughness and wettability will increase
the Raman spectrum intensity of the cellulose and lignin will decrease
and the infrared spectrum intensity of the hydrophilic group will increase. Additionally
on the white pine wood surface treated with discharge
there are strong correlation characteristics among the surface microscopic morphology
wetting characteristics
and chemical groups. This work provides a valuable reference for the applications of corona discharge in wood surface modification.
