Abstract:
The climate change has motivated more and more countries worldwide to pay attention to the low-carbon transition of electric power systems, among which the UK has carried out much valuable and pioneering work. Based on a systematic review of policies on climate change, energy and greenhouse gas emission, this paper introduces the present status of development, goals, and challenges of the electric power system transition in the UK. And the whole-system-integration and innovation-driven overall strategy is analyzed from four critical development areas, i. e., the security and resilience, the framework and hierarchy, the policies and markets, and the social science. Considering the multi-dimensional integration of the policy, the market, the technology and the society during the transition of net zero emission, this paper further summarizes the experience of the electric power system transition in the UK and its enlightenment to China from four aspects: system integration, role of distribution networks, guidance of policies and markets, and human-oriented innovation drive.
