Abstract: Abstract: Application of intelligent technology in transformer substations is relatively mature. As the hydropower plant equipments are more complex, the intelligentization of hydropower plant is still at an exploratory stage. This paper investigated the construction of domestic smart hydropower plants, researched the development and application of smart devices and intelligent monitoring systems for major domestic manufacturers, analyzed the main characteristics of the intelligent hydropower plant and monitoring system network, studied the application of IEC61850 communication protocol in smart hydropower plants. The construction plan of the Wuqiangxi expansion generator project smart hydropower plant was designed, focusing on solving the compatibility problems of the new and old equipments in the monitoring system, providing experience for the future intelligent reconstruction of similar hydropower plants and the construction of smart power plants.
