An Assessment Approach of the Power System Vulnerability Considering the Uncertainties of Wind Power Integration

  • Abstract: With the advancement of the smart grid, the interconnectedness of 2 is increasing in recent years, which probably causes cascading failures when vulnerable components exist. Thus, how to assess the power system vulnerability is of great importance in power system planning. Meanwhile, the high penetration of wind power brings a large amount of uncertainties into the systems, causing more challenges on the vulnerable component identification and vulnerable level quantification. To deal with these issues, in this paper the active power of transmission line is selected to define the line efficiency weightiness based on the complex network theory first. Then, the vulnerability assessment index is established through calculating the system overall efficiency which consists of each line efficiency. Finally, the proposed approach is verified in a modified IEEE 30-bus system with wind power. Simulation results shows that the assessment approach can not only locate the vulnerable components but also quantify the system vulnerability after considering the uncertainties of wind power integration.
