A Novel Directional Element for High Voltage Hybrid AC/DC Power System

  • Abstract: A high voltage hybrid AC/DC power system has already been formed in China. The interconnection of LCC-HVDC transmission system brings many problems. The traditional relay protection directional components may mis-operate during the commutation failure progress. This paper proposed a novel directional element for high voltage hybrid AC/DC power system. The different sequence components were analyzed. Time delay was added to the traditional directional components. PSCAD-based simulation was used to generate signals. Fourier transform was used to estimate the sequence components and phasors. Simulation results shows that the proposed directional element works well in the high voltage hybrid AC/DC power system.
