A Fault Phase Selection for Distribution Network Based on Correlation Coefficient of Three-phase Transient Voltage

  • Abstract: For the problem of fault phase selection (FPS) in distribution network, a method based on transient voltage traveling wave was proposed in this paper. The method utilized the correlation relation and energy relation of three-phase transient voltage traveling wave to establish the criteria for identifying fault phase. By using transient traveling wave, the method had the advantage of high speed. The FPS algorithm was concise and feasible, and the adopted length of data window was one over forty of the power frequency cycle. Simulated results on the platform of PSCAD showed the effectiveness of the presented FPS method, which was excellent in accuracy and speed regardless of the fault location or the transition resistance under different fault types.
