Abstract: This thesis mainly analyzes the applications of distance protection zone I for short transmission line or weak-infeed. It demonstrates the calculation method of shortest length of transmission line that distance protection zone I can be applied at power source side and gives suggestions of setting calculation. Moreover, it analyzes the large error between measured impedance value and actual fault impedance, because distance protection zone I may work improperly when distance protection used for weak-infeed side.
