Abstract: Under the goal of "double carbon", the proportion of new energy (photovoltaic and wind power) in electric energy is increasing, and the demand for energy storage is increasing. This paper analyzes the current situation of common energy storage methods, discusses two schemes of pumped storage system based on the development of built cascade hydropower stations and pumped storage system based on built hydropower stations，and finally gives effective methods to accelerate the development of pumped storage technology and solve the contradiction between the rapid development of new energy and the insufficient capacity of the power grid.
